Mac-Gray Campus Solution’s Lighten the Load™ initiative is reducing college carbon footprints while educating students on the benefits of making sustainable choices in the laundry room. We applaud the company for looking at the impact on the environment as a corporate priority. By encouraging campuses to reduce the environmental impact of their properties and facilities, and offering them environmentally responsible solutions to accomplish this objective, Mac-Gray is serving an important role to help campuses further their efforts to promote on campus sustainability. Since the start of the partnership six years ago, we are proud to report that Mac-Gray has mitigated over 107 million pounds of CO2 through external carbon reduction projects chosen to meet the voluntary guidelines set forth by the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC).
In 2012, Mac-Gray supported our exceptional project located in the “lungs of the Earth” - the Brazilian Amazon. In the world's largest rainforest, the PURUS REDD + (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) Project will protect over 85,000 acres from slash-and-burn forest clearing and prevent millions of tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. The Purus Project, the first ever REDD+ project in the State of Acre, to achieve dual-validation to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCBS) with Gold Distinction, boasts many environmental and community benefits including: reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, mitigation of climate change, conservation of habitat for endangered and threatened species, improvement for local water quality, retaining of top soil and control erosion, establishing alternative sources of income and employment opportunities, and social projects and programs such as building a new school and health clinic. It is a high standard, cutting edge project that proves beneficial for both planet and people.
Carbonfund.org Foundation is a proud partner of Mac-Gray’s Lighten the Load program and we look forward to building on the great work that has been done over the past six years.
Yes, even your dentist can make a difference in the fight against the negative effects of climate change. Green dentistry is “a high-tech approach that reduces the environmental impact of dental practices and encompasses a service model for dentistry that supports and maintains wellness.” Green dentistry helps dental professionals protect the health of patients and the planet by implementing energy saving technologies that improve dental care efficiency and effectiveness, as well as improving the financial health of dental practices.
New CarbonFree® Business Partner Robinson Smile Center recognizes the opportunities to improve the sustainability of its dental practice, but also acknowledges the limitations.
“Dentistry is inherently wasteful due to the requirements for patient and employee safety. This makes it challenging but even more necessary to excel in other ways to be more environmentally conscious and active,” explains Jason Luchtefeld, DMD. “Carbonfund.org allowed us an avenue to offset emissions from some of the areas that are not currently available for us to change any other way.”
Robinson Smile Center offers general dentistry for the entire family and centers its practice on establishing patient relationships based on trust and respect. The practice utilizes energy efficient lighting throughout its offices. Next month, they will be installing a new DryVac system to reduce power and water consumption dramatically. The office maintains a strong recycling program for cardboard, plastic and paper, and uses recycled or biodegradable products when possible. These initiatives, along with CarbonFree® operations, place Robinson Smile Center in the forefront of green dentistry practices.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PLAYN, Frames And Lenses Straight From The Makers, is launching with a popup store at Boxpark in
London on July 25th.
Based on a design principle “80% plain and 20% play”, PLAYN offers easy-to-wear eyewear with a
dash of “je ne sais quoi”. On PLAYN.COM, people can browse the collection of 21 original styles and
play with a wide range of colour and coating options. Once an order is placed, the company then
ships straight out of the lenses lab in Bangkok. This one-stop distribution process – “Factory > Lab >
Doorstep” – reduces cost and environmental impact, leaving PLAYN with a bigger budget to produce
quality, premium lenses.
PLAYN is the brainchild of German designer Denis Beyer and entrepreneur Jonas Koblin, two school
friends who moved to Bangkok in 2004 at the age of 24. They started from scratch, doing design work
for international fashion labels, running Niche Nation, a luxury eyewear boutique and a distribution
company We Do Asia. After working in the industry for several years, the pair decided to create their
own label with the mission to fuse their passion for quality and design with the principles of a modern
supply chain. This allows them to offer handcrafted eyewear and custom options at a new,
competitive price point.
To reduce its environmental impact, PLAYN partners with the Carbonfund.org Foundation to offset its
carbon footprint and the PATT Foundation, a local non-profit organization, to plant a tree for every pair
