Since 2010, Kessler Consulting has partnered with Carbonfund.org to calculate and neutralize the estimated carbon emissions associated with its annual business operations. This important sustainability program further demonstrates the firm’s commitment to environmental responsibility, and Carbonfund.org commends Kessler Consulting for its sustainability leadership.
It takes continuous effort to manage and reduce carbon emissions associated with running a business. Long-term Carbonfree® Business Partner Mountain Rose Herbs takes this commitment to operational sustainability very seriously and has made great progress to “reduce what you can, offset what you can’t™” year over year.
Mountain Rose Herbs offers high quality organic bulk herbs, gourmet spices, loose leaf teas, essential oils, herbal extracts, and natural body care ingredients, including certified organic, fair trade, ethically wild harvested, and Kosher certified botanical products, through its online store. The company’s primary facility was constructed with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards and relies heavily on natural lighting. Energy demand was further reduced by making a complete lighting upgrade to energy-efficient bulbs in principal facilities and installing Energy-Star rated heating and cooling systems.
In addition, Mountain Rose Herbs upgraded all computers to those with Gold Star ratings for energy conservation, minimal shipment packaging, and elimination of environmentally harmful materials, as well as more energy-efficient flat screen monitors. The company converted all electrical usage to a local Green Power program to ensure that a significant portion of electricity comes from wind and solar sources.
Even with all of these efforts, management at Mountain Rose Herbs recognizes that the company still produces carbon emissions. Since 2008, they’ve worked with Carbonfund.org to measure and offset these unavoidable emissions by supporting clean energy and carbon reduction projects such as a wind farm in India, a methane collection plant in New York, and Carbonfund.org’s forest conservation work in Brazil. To date, the company has neutralized over 4 million pounds of carbon emissions, equivalent to taking 400 passenger cars off the road for a year!
Carbonfund.org applauds Mountain Rose Herbs for its long-term and continuous commitment to sustainability and is honored to partner with the company to help achieve its goals.
At Carbonfund.org, we love it when our business partners take our motto seriously and put it into action. We’ve been touting “reduce what you can, offset what you can’t™” for almost a dozen years, and many of our business partners have joined us in these efforts. It's easy to talk the talk, but they walk the walk as well.
Five-year Carbonfree® Business Partner Original Moxie is a great example. They create every product they offer and have a very personal stake in whether each ingredient is safe to use – for customers and for the planet. Whenever possible, Original Moxie uses organic, unrefined ingredients, so as to maximize their uniquely beneficial properties and minimize the company’s carbon footprint.
Original Moxie also understands that waste tends to pile up when you make something from scratch. Whenever possible, they purchase tools and supplies that can be re-used without sacrificing hygiene and quality. From glass droppers for essential oils to cotton towels for cleaning up, Original Moxie strives to minimize the amount of disposable items used to create products. All paper, plastic and glass that cannot be re-used is responsibly recycled, and all product containers are easily-recyclable plastics. All retail customers receive their orders in USPS Priority Mail boxes, which have been awarded Cradle to Cradle Certification℠ for their ecologically-intelligent design.
For everything that can't yet be reduced, recycled, or re-used, Original Moxie offsets its remaining carbon footprint by partnering with Carbonfund.org in supporting carbon emissions reduction projects. To date, Original Moxie has neutralized 395,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, the same quantity as avoiding over 2 million pounds of waste decomposition in landfills.
Whether your hair is curly or straight, Original Moxie’s natural hair care products will help you look your best, and you can feel good about a company that’s leading the beauty care industry in true environmental responsibility.
Salsa Labs helps nonprofits ignite action and fuel change by growing and engaging a base of support through its all-in-one online engagement platform. But for their own annual business activities, Salsa has chosen to mitigate the impact of their fuel consumption by supporting Carbonfund.org’s carbon emissions reduction, clean air technology and forest preservation projects.
Since joining the Carbonfree® Business Partnership program in 2010, Salsa has neutralized almost a million pounds of greenhouse gases, equivalent to the emissions created by driving a passenger car over a million miles.
“Carbonfund.org shares our core values of making the world a better place," comments Tammy Sproule, Director of Marketing at Salsa. "Their commitment to the environment and fighting climate change is inspiring and we look forward to this partnership.”
With Salsa, organizations can easily organize their supporters and chapters, fundraise, advocate, communicate through email and social media, host events and measure results. The company currently empowers more than 3,000 organizations and their more than 92 million donors, members, activists and fans.
Earlier this year, Salsa announced the release of its newest software, Solis. Designed to help growing nonprofit organizations – including many environmental organizations -- take full advantage of online communications, outreach and fundraising, Solis guides its users step-by-step through developing email, donation, social sharing and online CRM tools, all in one application.
“By integrating all the tools nonprofits need as well as proven best practice guides and tips within the application, we save organizations more than just time. We can lead even the smallest nonprofit to success,” said Charles Parsons, Director of Product Development.
Carbonfund.org commends Salsa Labs for creating scalable solutions for nonprofit and advocacy groups of all sizes, and for maintaining an ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility for its own operations.

For the past five years, San Francisco-based VonChurch, the leading recruiting firm specialized in helping digitally focused companies evolve, has achieved one of its many commitments – to “being green” – in part through its Carbonfree® Business Partnership program with Carbonfund.org. Each year, VonChurch makes a donation to Carbonfund.org to neutralize their estimated annual operational emissions.
"It is crucial we continue to take part in taking care of our environment,” explains Nicole Ossey, HR Director of VonChurch. “The partnership with Carbonfund.org helps us do that because of information and programs they provide, which are able to support the goal of our company to be a Green Certified Business."
To date, VonChurch has neutralized over 800,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to the emissions created by driving a standard passenger car almost 875,000 miles.
Founded in San Francisco in August 2008, VonChurch is committed to preserving the environment. Not only is the firm offsetting emissions for its office energy usage and its eleven employees, but they also offset emissions from flights that they initiate when recruitment candidates fly to meet VonChurch clients.
Additionally, VonChurch participates in the San Francisco Green Business program, a non-profit organization that establishes rigid requirements to ensure green business practices. These commitments to “being green” keep VonChurch at the forefront in the recruiting industry as an environmental leader.
PureLife Dental is “watching its Ps” when it comes to its triumvirate of operating commitments. PureLife empowers dental practitioners to make a positive difference in the health of their patients, staff, and environmental impact, so that achieving better health can be a realistic part of every purchase decision they make.
The firm’s “Patients, Planet, Profits” Pledge ensures that PureLife Dental’s customers benefit from the company’s goal to provide the highest quality and most environmentally healthy products at the best available prices. From complete waste solutions to everyday dental supplies, PureLife Dental believes that healthy patients, a healthy planet, and healthy profits can all be achieved, with no tradeoffs required.
Through Carbonfund.org, PureLife Dental offsets 100% of the company’s annual operational emissions, as well as all of the shipping emissions for every product they sell, from the manufacturing line to the customer’s door. Since 2008, PureLife Dental has neutralized over 16.5 million pounds of carbon emissions by supporting Carbonfund.org’s reforestation projects around the world. Those carbon emissions reductions are comparable to the quantity of carbon dioxide sequestered by over 192,000 tree seedlings planted and grown over a ten-year period. As a result, PureLife Dental customers are reducing their own environmental impact with every order placed through PureLife.
“When we launched PureLife, the first thing we did was to see how we could reduce the impact of shipping products all over the country,” said Cassie Walker, VP of Marketing and Sustainability. “This was important, because dentists could buy their supplies from anyone, but if they buy them from us there’s a reduced eco impact, automatically.”
“We chose Carbonfund.org for our offset program because they had credibility – their projects are third-party validated and additional – as well as the expertise to help us calculate our emissions until we developed that capability in-house,” said Walker. “They’ve continued to help us refine our program and figure out approachable ways to talk about it with our customers.”
In addition to their carbon neutral operations, PureLife’s Feel Good Collection include products that have an environmental advantage over their traditional counterparts. Whether they contain recycled content or non-toxic chemistries, or they come in reduced or recycled content packaging, these products allow dental practitioners to make a difference without sacrificing anything.
PureLife Dental’s commitment to “Patients, Planet, Profits” underscores its sustainability leadership in the dental supply industry, and Carbonfund.org is honored to partner with PureLife to help achieve these goals.

This year, WorldStrides teamed with the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and Carbonfund.org to offer students participating in the Fuqua GATE programs and the Kellogg GIM programs the option to neutralize the carbon emissions from their program-related flights. When students register for their program travel on WorldStrides’ online system, they are given the option to purchase flight-related carbon offsets. WorldStrides forwards all funds collected for flight emission offsets to Carbonfund.org, which neutralizes the emissions through internationally certified carbon emission reduction programs. These programs include alternative green energy projects and reforestation initiatives. The third-party verification and validation of Carbonfund.org’s sponsored carbon reduction projects assures that each individual student’s payment is used directly for their flight emissions offsets. And while Fuqua does not require students to purchase the carbon offset, they strongly encourage students to participate in their role as the next generation of business leaders and stewards of our environment and planet.
WorldStrides has coordinated programs for over 6 million student travelers in over 90 countries. WorldStrides Capstone programs promise life-changing experiences as a global citizen and access to corridors of power around the globe. Now, students can enhance their role as global citizens by improving the sustainability of their travel and study program by neutralizing flight emissions with WorldStrides and Carbonfund.org.
What’s one way to reduce your carbon footprint? Reduce your waistline and stay fit.
For some, this is easier said than done, but for those in Southern California, there’s a Carbonfree® Business Partner that can help. Southern California-based fitness and nutrition center HDX Fit offers an integrative approach to optimal health through fitness, nutrition and lifestyle guidance with multiple HDX Fit locations around the Orange County and Los Angeles area.
Through their Carbonfree® Business Partnership, HDX Fit neutralizes its annual operational emissions each year by supporting Carbonfund.org’s reforestation projects around the world. Over the past five years, HDX Fit has mitigated the negative impact of almost 380,000 pounds of greenhouse gases, equivalent to growing almost 4500 trees over a ten-year period.
"We chose to partner with Cabonfund.org because we believed that as a company, if we were to lead by example and help offset our carbon footprint, we could encourage our clients and business partners to do the same,” explains Huw Lloyd Davies, owner of HDX Fit. “We believe that we all need to do our part to bring about sustainable change."
HDX Fit also donates 1% of its profits back to the planet through support of various environmental organizations. They recommend environmentally friendly household cleaning products, nutrition supplements and food that are grown organically, and environmentally renewable clothing suppliers. HDX Fit hosts seminars to help clients maintain more energy efficient and environmentally friendly homes and arrange local energy efficiency contractors for clients at a reduced rate. Many HDX Fit events take clients “outdoors” so they can develop and deepen a keen interest in both a more active lifestyle and in protecting the resources they enjoy.
HDX Fit operates on the belief that a healthy body coupled with a nourished, focused mind can achieve anything, and part of what they strive to achieve is a meaningful contribution to protecting our environment. Carbonfund.org is glad to continue our partnership with HDX Fit in these efforts.
