Renewable Energy Certificates are another way your business can reduce its carbon footprint.

By choosing to support renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, biomass and other clean energy, your business is making a commitment to renewable energy production. This also allows your business to claim that it is powered by renewable energy, even if the local utility does not offer such electricity production; for every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent amount of RECs is produced, measured in megawatt hours. The purchase of RECs helps offset the cost difference between clean and dirty sources of energy production such as coal. These purchases help companies reduce their net emissions and create demand for market transformation in the energy sector.

MyGreenFuture is Carbonfund.org’s Green-e Energy certified renewable energy product via the purchase and retirement of renewable energy certificates (RECs).

If you are interested in purchasing MyGreenFuture RECs, please contact us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), or call toll free: 877-286-4698.

Your purchase of renewable energy certificates (RECs) is supporting renewable electricity production nationally.  You will continue to receive a separate electricity bill from your utility.  For every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent amount of RECs is produced. The purchase of RECs helps offset conventional electricity generation in the region where the renewable electricity generator is located.  The purchase also helps build a market for renewable electricity and has other environmental benefits such as reducing global climate change and air pollution.

Renewable resources in MyGreenFuture have an open mix of wind, solar, biomass, and other renewable sources. MyGreenFuture is only available to commercial donors. See below for Carbonfund.org's Content Label and Disclosures for 100% Green-e Energy certified MyGreenFuture.

MyGreenFuture Certification

Carbonfund.org’s MyGreenFuture RECs can be used to meet most certification standards, including:

LEED® (NC, CI, EB-OM):
LEED is an internationally recognized certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).  It measures how well a building or community performs across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.  LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

EPA’s Green Power Partnership:
The Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that supports the organizational procurement of green power.  Buying green power is one of the easiest and most effective ways to improve your organization’s environmental performance.

Carbonfund.org Partners who have purchased MyGreenFuture RECs include: Discovery Communications, Hines, Esurance, JetBlue, and Yakima.

The following is Carbonfund.org’s Content Label and Disclosures for 100% Green-e Energy certified MyGreenFuture.

Product Content Label

MyGreenFuture is a Green-e certified renewable certificate product. For every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent amount of renewable energy certificates (RECs) is produced.

Your contribution to Carbonfund.org and selection of the MyGreenFuture option supports the purchase and retiring of RECs that support renewable electricity generation, which offsets conventional electricity generation and its carbon dioxide emissions. Carbon dioxide emissions are a major cause of global warming. MyGreenFuture enables you to reduce your carbon footprint by supporting renewable electricity projects that offset the CO2 from conventional power plants. The product will be made up of the following new renewable resources averaged annually. You will continue to receive a separate electricity bill from your utility (if applicable).

Renewable Resources in MyGreenFuture

- Wind Percentage and Generation Location available upon request
- Solar Percentage and Generation Location available upon request
- Biomass Percentage and Generation Location available upon request
- Geothermal Percentage and Generation Location available upon request
- Low Impact Hydro Percentage and Generation Location available upon request
(includes renewable generators that first started operating after January 1, 1997).

For comparison, the average (2002-2006) mix of energy sources supplying the US includes: Coal (49%), Nuclear (20%), Oil (3%), Natural Gas (18%), Large Hydroelectric (7%), Other Fossil (1%), and Renewables (2%). (From U.S. Department of Energy/Energy Information Administration.)
