Cruise in CarbonFree Elegance with Hornblower Cruises & Events
There are few urban pleasures more exquisite than a pleasant cruise on a yacht around the harbor, with a glowing skyline in the background and pleasant sea breezes in the air.
Hornblower Cruises & Events is one of the best known yacht charter companies on the West Coast. It offers cruises in numerous cities, and its Alcatraz Cruises subsidiary runs ferries to the famous island prison. Hornblower’s Greater LA/Orange County branch recently came onboard Carbonfund.org’s CarbonFree Partnerships Program.
From its beginnings in 1980 as a two-ship operation in San Francisco Bay, Hornblower has focused on exceeding the expectations of its guests and on maintaining the highest standards of safety and comfort for its vessels and facilities. Today, Hornblower is a $30 million business with 32 yachts and is the market leader in each of the six California ports it serves.
Hornblower offers its cruises up and down the coast of California, in cities including San Diego, Newport Beach, Marina del Rey, Long Beach, and San Francisco. Its yachts are available for public weekend dinner cruises, champagne brunches, sunset harbor cruises, and as private charters for corporate events and weddings..
All that elegance and style comes with a carbon price tag, but Hornblower is being proactive about dealing with its footprint. The Greater LA/Orange County office is offsetting the emissions from its office operations, and as of May 15, it’s reaching out to its guests to offer the option to offset their private yacht charter. In addition, larger corporate clientele have the option to offset entire cruises.
All this started with a phone call from Carbonfund.org Partnerships Manager Michael Stewart, who reached out to Hornblower as part of Carbonfund.org’s strategy for helping businesses offset their emissions. “Michael’s been a real help to us,” said Cassidy Eastwood, Facilities Manager for Hornblower Greater LA/Orange County. “This is a great initiative and we’re looking forward to working more with Carbonfund.org.”
Besides carbon offsets, Hornblower has adopted an Environmental Policy Statement that promotes sustainability both in and outside of the corporate community. The aim is to minimize the company footprint and promote green awareness.
