Elusion: The First CarbonFree DVD
Elusion is a waking dream, a non-narrative experimental documentary that takes the best tricks from the myths, legends and ghosts of the North American BMX flatland community and blends them from one scene to the next in fluid motion, accompanied by an original score that pulls viewers further in.
It’s also the world’s first CarbonFree DVD, and yet another example of the trend toward carbon neutral products.
Flatland is a unique style of BMX bike riding, performed on flat surfaces that don’t include ramps or rails. Meant as a historical document for future generations, Elusion documents the BMX flatland community, showing flatland as flatlanders see it, while maintaining the elusive nature of the riders themselves.
Elusion is offsetting the carbon footprint from the production of the film itself and from the manufacturing of all the DVDs and CDs associated with the film.
“From the environmental policies of the plant that manufactures the discs to the emissions of the vehicles used during the shooting of the film, we asked questions and did our best to make the right decisions to minimize our impact,” said Tex Thayer, April Third Studios’ Co-Owner and Artistic Director. “We chose to offset the carbon footprint because there were factors involved that we simply couldn’t control. We decided to use Carbonfund.org for many reasons. They were as genuinely concerned about reducing carbon emissions as we were, and they promote products that actually help you reduce your carbon footprint. Plus it’s a non-profit organization, and we were treated as colleagues with the same ideals, not as just another potential check in the mail. After meeting Eric and many of the staff in person on a recent trip to Washington, I feel even more confident that we made the right decision.”
Elusion was the official selection of several film festivals, including the Ybor Festival of the Moving Image, the Lone Star International Film Festival, the Dallas Video Festival and the Bare Bones International Film Festival.
The 2-Disc Special Edition was released April 3rd to select outlets. It includes a DVD with the film, DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks, deleted scenes, an interview with composer Matilda and a commentary track plus a soundtrack CD with all the songs from the film and DVD menus plus nine bonus songs that totals over 50 minutes in length. If you don’t want to wait for it to appear on Amazon or at your local Best Buy, it’s available from any bike shop or bicycle mail-order company in the US through the distributor, Quality Bicycle Products.
