Ship it Carbonfree™ with Carbonfund.org
Can every package be Carbonfree™? Our new Carbonfree™ Shipping program aims to do just that. According to the Department of Energy, emissions from shipping in the US exceed the total emissions of Canada. Through a collaborative effort with the Green Design Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, Carbonfund.org can calculate emissions of packages shipped around the world and makes it easy and affordable to zero them out.
Retailing leaders Evogear.com, Better World Books, 3RLiving and alonovo.com are the first to join the innovative program, making Carbonfree™ Shipping available for the holidays.
Better World Books, a socially responsible online bookstore, has incorporated a standard fee into every order made on its website to offset all CO2 emissions of its shipments. 3R Living, a green home furnishings retailer, and Evogear, a snow and water sports retailer, offer Carbonfree™ shipping as an option to any customer who wishes to make their shipping carbon neutral. Alonovo.com, a socially responsible shopping portal, is integrating offsets into their shopping cart procedure.
With its shipping calculator, Carbonfund.org can use the weight, distance, and method of shipping to conclude the individual carbon footprint of a single package. Online retailers are able to use past shipping data to determine the average carbon footprint of their shipments and can then assign an average offset cost to each.
Carbonfund.org is currently working with numerous other online retailers to launch similar Carbonfree™ programs.
The cost of offsetting all the carbon from a single shipment? Typically between 5 and 50 cents. Carbonfree™ shipping makes it easy and affordable for consumers to offset their carbon footprint, one shipment at a time.
