Teach the Children Well: Carbonfund.org Partners with FiftyP
(Guest article by Jen Hawse, Climate Change Specialist)

When I was a kid my parents paid me an allowance of $20 a week to sweep and mop the floor. On weekends, I went to the mall and blew that $20 on a cheap lunch and tacky jewelry at the teeny-bopper accessory shops. If I’d had a goal for my money then I’d have saved it up, week by week, gaining a greater appreciation for the dollar and what it could do for me. And I know I’d be better at managing my finances today.
What if kids had the ability to invest their allowances, or any other money they receive, into CDs, bonds, and high-yield savings accounts? What if, at the same time, we could teach children about the importance of giving to charities, like Carbonfund.org, from an early age?
With CarbonFree® Partner FiftyP, we can.
FiftyP understands this need to teach children about the importance of saving for themselves and giving to others. It wants to empower the next generation with financial management tools that teach them about the power of giving, while FiftyP gives back as well.
How does it work? Kids learn about earning, investing, and managing money, in a safe, secure online setting. Parents hold the “actual” money, which backs what kids see in their online accounts. FiftyP keeps track of their earnings from allowance, projects, gifts and investments. You can always see what your kids do with their money and will be notified for approval whenever your child wants to make a change.
Carbonfund.org has partnered with FiftyP to promote the power of giving to future generations. Not only is FiftyP empowering children, it’s also using half of its profits as a force for good by giving to the kids’ communities toward charities they care about—staying true to the motto, “Money Wise, Caring Kids.”
Who better to learn the importance of a carbon neutral world than the ones who will be living in it—our children? By using half of its profits as a force for good, FiftyP is redefining business as usual. And by partnering with Carbonfund.org it’s amplifying that force.
When I become a mother I hope to give my children an important jumpstart on the road to responsible investing for themselves and their communities. You can do the same today.
