Flight Offsets at the Time of Booking & Soon, on the Plane!
Making offsets more accessible as an option for travelers is a practical way to get the global warming message across, while also raising support for Carbonfund.org’s innovative carbon reduction projects. Virgin America currently operates a fleet that is up to 30 percent more fuel-efficient than the average fleet flying domestically and has adopted practices that reduce its carbon footprint. The airline now provides a flight offset option for passengers at the time of booking. This is done through the Virgin America ticket purchase confirmation page. Passengers can also offset their flight through www.carbonfund.org/virginamerica.
Coming soon, Virgin America will also give its passengers the ability to offset in-flight, using the airline’s touch-screen seatback entertainment system. The projects supported in our partnership with Virgin America are the Inland Empire Utilities Agency Biodigester, which reduces more than 8,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent from the atmosphere each year, and IdleAire Truck Stop Electrification, which helps prevent unnecessary tailpipe emissions from trucks and saves a gallon of diesel per hour.
Virgin America serves cities around the country, including N.Y., Washington, L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, and other destinations.
