Androids and Google Help Carbonfund.org Fight Global Warming
Have you ever thought about winning a huge contest for something you created? In early 2008, Google opened up a contest to see who could design the coolest programs using Google’s new Android software platform. Months and 1,700 projects later, Ecorio, an Ontario based software company, proved themselves as the grand prize winner. Their project: make a mobile phone application that empowers individuals to fight global warming with carbon offsets from Carbonfund.org.
The five engineering student founders of Ecorio make it easy to access information about reducing carbon footprints and the ability to offset the rest through Carbonfund.org. Thanks to Ecorio you need nothing more than a mobile phone to connect to a climate friendly and knowledgeable community.
Ecorio does this in a number of ways including using a GPS chip inside soon-to-be-released cell phones that calculate an individual’s carbon footprint on the go. An Ecorio enabled phone will know when you are traveling, how you are getting there, and give you the ability to precisely offset your emissions as they occur. Talk about innovative!
Ecorio will also make travel suggestions that will help you reduce your carbon footprint. By keeping track of your travel patterns, Ecorio can link you local car pools or suggest public transit options for a user’s regular travel routes. It connects users to online communities that share and inspire sustainable living tips, and Ecorio provides users easily accessible ways to offset their carbon footprint through a partnership with Carbonfund.org!
In short – Ecorio helps people realize that they’re not alone in the fight against global warming, and enables users to accurately measure their carbon footprint. Thanks Ecorio for empowering people to take action in the fight against global warming.
