Description
Loisos + Ubbelohde specializes in high performance buildings, providing architectural design, consulting and planning with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. We believe architecture should provide a place to live comfortably and with awareness of the environment in buildings that are generous in spirit and space, critically designed for people’s well-being, and made lovingly with quality materials. Our work seeks a quadruple bottom-line: one that balances aesthetic, fiscal, social, and environmental sustainability. We use advanced simulation and analysis techniques to address daylighting and lighting design, energy modeling, comfort analysis, building performance and LEED certification.
Commitment
Our commitment to the environment involves both our professional work and our own office practices. 100% of our design and consulting projects are sustainably-based and our work serves as a model for advancing the ecological performance of architectural design. We are a carbon-neutral firm; the majority of our office commutes by bicycle and public transportation and all of the firm’s air and car travel is offset. Our office employs electric lighting on daylight dimming and occupancy sensors, window shades on automatic controls, and increased insulation and ceiling fans to regulate temperature without using heating or cooling equipment. A certified Bay Area Green Business, we sit in Cradle-to-Cradle Think chairs, purchase local recycled products, use a green cleaning service, reduce water use and buy organic produce. Sustainability education is also fundamental to our mission. We teach courses on sustainability in two architecture schools, provide professional seminars, publish and present our research at symposia around the world and the actively support continuing education for all staff.
