Description

Esurance, one of the fastest growing auto insurance companies in America, is committed to saving some green. Below is a brief overview of some of the ways they contribute to the fight against climate change.

The Business Side
Esurance provides insurance to its customers directly online, virtually eliminating the need for paper in a traditionally paper-intensive industry. Since the company’s launch in 1999, Esurance policyholders have helped save tens of thousands of trees by buying their auto insurance online. Operationally, Esurance also works to reduce its carbon footprint with a hybrid fleet of claims vehicles and through its “Are You Thinking Green?” internal initiative. Through this program, reusable drinkware was distributed to all 1,800+ associates; recycling programs, including the use of recycled office products, were implemented in all of their offices; and a national network of green associates provides tips about how to further environmentally friendly practices in the workplace.

In the Community
Esurance augments its work internally by supporting urban reforestation efforts with local environmental partners throughout the country. Through their efforts, over 69,000 trees have been planted to date. In addition to tree plantings, Esurance also focuses on environmental education for youth, ensuring that the next generation is equipped with knowledge on how to care for and protect our environment.

Eco-Marketing
Esurance has also received awards and recognition for being the first in its industry to nationally advertise and promote environmental messages focused on carpooling and carbon footprint reduction. These action-driven messages provide tips on easy ways we can all reduce our carbon footprint today.

Commitment

Esurance has purchased renewable energy credits (RECs) to offset 100% of its electricity use in each of their permanent office locations nationwide with clean wind power from the Indian Mesa Wind Farm in Uptown, TX. With this purchase, Esurance joins the EPA’s Green Power Partnership, a voluntary program that encourages organizations to buy green power as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with purchased electricity use.
Esurance also offsets the carbon emissions from the company’s fleet of hybrid claims vehicles through reforestation projects in the Tensas River Valley in Louisiana.

Partner Quote

“At Esurance, we’re always working to make our operations environmentally friendly, particularly by reducing our carbon footprint when we can, and offsetting it when we can’t. That goal perfectly aligns with the mission of Carbonfund.org, and we are honored to partner with them,” said Kristin Brewe, Director of Brand and Public Relations for Esurance. “With the resources available to corporations, businesses can and should play a significant role in fighting climate change. Esurance is proud to join other responsible companies and individuals in doing our part… Imagine every company in the world working with organizations like Carbonfund.org to invest in sustainable energy projects. We all need to imagine big ideas like that, and then, make them happen with quality partners like Carbonfund.org.”
