Commitment

In addition to purchasing offsets through CarbonFund.org, we buy wind power for 100% of our heating, cooling, and other electrical needs; we were the first law firm to meet all four criteria of the EPA and American Bar Association’s Law Office Climate Challenge, and we are working with the EPA-ABA to establish as a fifth criterion the use of video-conferencing (and thus reduce travel, the source of law offices’ largest CO2 impacts); we joined the Chicago Climate Exchange to help expand offset programs into the building sector (which is responsible for 35-45% of CO2 emissions in the U.S.); and, through Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Program, we fund the planting of almost 1,000 trees annually in Inner Mongolia.
