The Coastal Society
Description
The Coastal Society is an organization of private sector, academic, and government professionals and students dedicated to actively addressing emerging coastal issues by fostering dialogue, forging partnerships, and promoting communication and education. TCS has a distinguished history and organizes one of the longest running series of coastal conferences in the world. There are five active student chapters at Duke University, East Carolina, University of Rhode Island, University of Washington, and University of Hawaii. These students as well and the entire Coastal Society membership are passionate about bountiful, beautiful coasts and oceans. For more information, please visit www.thecoastalsociety.org.
Commitment
For the past 25 years, TCS has offered coastal practitioners opportunities for personal growth and learning that are unparalleled in other environmental organizations. Every two years, TCS hosts an international conference for coastal enthusiasts focused on the key issues of the day. Today, those key issues include greenhouse gas emissions, global warming, sea level rise and other potential impacts to coastal habitats and communities. By partnering with CarbonFund.org to offset the carbon dioxide emissions associated with conference activities including attendee travel, TCS demonstrates its commitment to the theme of our 21st conference: Coastal Footprints: Minimizing Human Impacts, Maximizing Stewardship.
Partner Quote
“Everyday the resource managers, researchers, teachers and students who are the members of The Coastal Society dedicate themselves to the vision of healthy coasts and oceans. They help communities make informed decisions about the use, development and protection of their coastal and ocean resources by providing research, best management practices and sometimes local project funding. As a network of young adults and the original Baby Boomer environmentalists across the country, they work to realize a world of healthy coasts and oceans enjoyed by all species.”
