Commitment
The Board of Directors of Capital Camps and Retreat Center has made a commitment to re-examine every aspect of the agency with an eye toward ongoing and consistent support of additional initiatives designed to combat global warming and climate change. In addition to offsetting its carbon footprint by supporting energy efficiency, reforestation and renewable energy projects with Carbonfund.org, Capital Camps has done the following to reduce its impact on the environment:
· Starting in the dining hall, all camp lighting will be converted to compact fluorescent bulbs
· Summer ’08 will usher in a comprehensive recycling program for paper, plastics and aluminum
· Reforestation has started with planting of 30 trees with another 70 planned before the summer begins.
· Camp administration will begin its shift from a hard-copy, paper-intensive method of constituent communication towards a greater reliance on electronic messages whenever applicable.
