Our company accesses renewable energy sources—and cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions—by purchases Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). By doing so we essentially displace the need for other non-renewable sources to provide power to our company. A renewable energy facility like a windmill farm, for instance, creates the credits that we purchase by displacing energy that would otherwise be generated by a non-renewable energy facility, like a coal plant.
