Description

As a fair trade business, Global Crafts links craftspeople in the South with markets in the North by purchasing goods for a fair price, enabling people to earn a fair wage.  Our handcrafted items vary from traditionally imported products like soapstone, jewelry, baskets, instruments, greeting cards and art to environmentally conscious items of recycled or renewable materials, often combining traditional design with an ecological slant.  http://www.globalcrafts.org

Commitment

Sustainability is a fundamental principle of Fair Trade, this encompasses the trade relationship, the communities we work with and the environments we live and work in. We have reduced the footprint of our warehouse by 30% in the last year, and partnered with the Carbon Fund to do reforestation projects to offset our energy and use of woods. We will continue to strive towards reducing our footprint while building our commitment to reforestation.

Quote

“There is little point to trying to change the way we trade, to bring our partners out of proverty, if along the way we do not take responsibility for the physical environment” Kevin Ward – Global Crafts. “Our commitment to the environment, encompasses every aspect of our business from product selection to how we construct our warehouse. As members of the Fair Trade Federation and IFAT, our mission is to provide a stairway out of poverty through sustainable fair trade. Sustainable fair trade requires a real commitment to the environment”
