Meet the donors: Gregg Schultz
Meet Gregg Schultz, managing director for JANA Partners, a New York City based hedge fund.
About Gregg…
I’ve lived in NYC the past 10yrs or so. I’m an avid reader. I enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. I’m a big fan of live music and I play the guitar. Recently I’ve become very dogmatic about my impact on the planet, and I try to reduce my resource consumption whenever possible.”
Steps Gregg’s taken to reduce his footprint…
· I use as little electricity as possible, especially heating and cooling;
· I unplug appliances at night;
· I’m in the process of replacing my car with a hybrid;
· I’ve stopped taking cabs in favor of walking or public transport;
· I recycle everything
· I don’t use bottled water anymore…
· I bring silverware and a cloth towel to work in lieu of plastic utensils and napkins. I also try to carry around a cloth bag instead of using plastic. i recycle everything
· I buy all used furniture, whenever possible
I’ve also recently tried to raise the environmental awareness at my office. To JANA’s credit we’re having serious discussions on how we can better “green” the office space.
Interesting anecdote’s…
I recently purchased a disposable razor sharpener for $12. It’s extremely simple and can extend the life of 1 disposable razor up to 40 shaves (versus an average of 2-3). Little things like that add up, and the bonus is that little gadget saves me around $100/yr....so I get a 700% return on my investment (that’s the investor in me coming out).
