With the success of COP21 in Paris last December, and the record number of companies and organizations around the world making significant pledges to reduce their carbon emissions, Carbonfund.org is thrilled to celebrate thirty-five of its business partners that have maintained carbon emissions reduction and mitigation programs continuously for the past ten years.
These organizations have shown long-term and consistent leadership in maintaining environmentally responsible business operations. Programs vary from tree-planting campaigns to recognize customers or employees and to celebrate Earth Day, to product shipping or travel and event-related emissions offsets, to full annual operational carbon neutrality.
Our tenth anniversary partners have supported innovative energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, clean air technology and critical forest preservation projects around the world.
Together, these thirty-five organizations have mitigated the negative impact of an astonishing 375 million pounds of greenhouse gases - equivalent to removing 35,810 passenger cars from the roads for a year! In addition, they’ve planted 10,400 trees in reforestation and tree-planting initiatives around the world, to celebrate Earth Days, customers or employees.

“It is both humbling and heartening to see this extensive list of organizations and businesses, of all sizes and in all industries, that have maintained a steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility and supporting the projects and the mission of Carbonfund.org,” exclaimed President and Co-Founder Eric Carlson. “With this type of leadership and dedication, these organizations continue to set the standard for others to follow. I am so honored to be able to recognize these long-term partner organizations.”
Each of these business partners and organizations is receiving a special Carbonfree® Partner – 10 Years logo, and Carbonfund.org will be planting 100 trees in honor of each tenth anniversary partner to thank them for their long-term partnership.
Watch this space, as we’ll be publishing a blog dedicated to each of our ten-year partners, to share more about their leadership in environmental sustainability.
There’s a full year to go before the 2016 US Presidential Election, and things are heating up already. Irrespective of political views, we all make basic consumer purchasing decisions each day that can impact our environment.
OneBern is offering Bernie Sanders’ supporters a line of t-shirts made from 60% hemp and 40% organic cotton. The website provides a “hemp 101” list comparing hemp as a more environmentally safe product material to wood, cotton, plastic and petroleum-based products.
In addition, OneBern uses only water-based inks for its t-shirts and has partnered with Carbonfund.org to offset the carbon footprint from shipping products to consumers. For each t-shirt sold and shipped to its customers, OneBern makes a donation to Carbonfund.org that is used to purchase and retire third-party validated and verified carbon offsets in forestry projects around the world.
While OneBern is supporting its own political causes and candidate, it’s also offering high quality t-shirts focused on making the world a better, lower carbon and more sustainable place.

Check out new Carbonfree® Business Partner Impact Consumer, which has just launched their online consumer goods site focused on providing products from companies that actively give back for each product purchased.
Impact Consumer is an E-Commerce marketplace for products with a positive environmental or social impact, seeking to create a meaningful consumer experience. From futbol/soccer ball and skateboard companies that give one for every one purchased, to a sunglasses company that supports Optometry Giving Sight, a candle company creating jobs for US refugees, and a children’s books publisher that supports clean drinking water initiatives, Impact Consumer’s featured products also focus on sustainable and Fair Trade materials.

Not only do the products they sell help to improve the world through social and environmental initiatives, but Impact Consumer has taken the additional step to balance all of the carbon dioxide generated from shipping the products to purchasers, and 25% of the company’s net profits will go to support their non-profit partners and ImpactConsumer outreach programs.
Founder and CEO Connor Eberhart says it very clearly: “As consumers, we directly support the practices of the companies we buy from, so let’s choose to purchase products from companies who are improving our planet.”
Impact Consumer has chosen to support Carbonfund.org and our carbon emissions reduction and mitigation projects, in order to neutralize its own operating emissions and product-to-consumer shipping emissions, thus lessening its own environmental impact on our world.
PureLife Dental is “watching its Ps” when it comes to its triumvirate of operating commitments. PureLife empowers dental practitioners to make a positive difference in the health of their patients, staff, and environmental impact, so that achieving better health can be a realistic part of every purchase decision they make.
The firm’s “Patients, Planet, Profits” Pledge ensures that PureLife Dental’s customers benefit from the company’s goal to provide the highest quality and most environmentally healthy products at the best available prices. From complete waste solutions to everyday dental supplies, PureLife Dental believes that healthy patients, a healthy planet, and healthy profits can all be achieved, with no tradeoffs required.
Through Carbonfund.org, PureLife Dental offsets 100% of the company’s annual operational emissions, as well as all of the shipping emissions for every product they sell, from the manufacturing line to the customer’s door. Since 2008, PureLife Dental has neutralized over 16.5 million pounds of carbon emissions by supporting Carbonfund.org’s reforestation projects around the world. Those carbon emissions reductions are comparable to the quantity of carbon dioxide sequestered by over 192,000 tree seedlings planted and grown over a ten-year period. As a result, PureLife Dental customers are reducing their own environmental impact with every order placed through PureLife.
“When we launched PureLife, the first thing we did was to see how we could reduce the impact of shipping products all over the country,” said Cassie Walker, VP of Marketing and Sustainability. “This was important, because dentists could buy their supplies from anyone, but if they buy them from us there’s a reduced eco impact, automatically.”
“We chose Carbonfund.org for our offset program because they had credibility – their projects are third-party validated and additional – as well as the expertise to help us calculate our emissions until we developed that capability in-house,” said Walker. “They’ve continued to help us refine our program and figure out approachable ways to talk about it with our customers.”
In addition to their carbon neutral operations, PureLife’s Feel Good Collection include products that have an environmental advantage over their traditional counterparts. Whether they contain recycled content or non-toxic chemistries, or they come in reduced or recycled content packaging, these products allow dental practitioners to make a difference without sacrificing anything.
PureLife Dental’s commitment to “Patients, Planet, Profits” underscores its sustainability leadership in the dental supply industry, and Carbonfund.org is honored to partner with PureLife to help achieve these goals.
Sustainable home décor e-retailer bambeco has launched their CarbonFree® Shipping program in partnership with the Carbonfund.org Foundation as part of the company’s goal to reduce its carbon impact.
“Bambeco was built from its inception as a sustainable company and brand focused on carbon reductions in all of our business practices. We continually evaluate our company and processes to make further carbon reductions. I am excited about our recent carbon reduction initiative to eliminate our carbon impact in 100% of our customer shipments. Working with Carbonfund.org to achieve Carbonfree® Shipping allows us to offset unavoidable shipping emissions and support renewable energy and reforestation,” explains Susan Aplin, bambeco CEO and co-founder.
Through the CarbonFree® Shipping program, bambeco calculates the carbon footprint of product shipments based on actual shipping, then offsets the environmental impact to create a carbon-neutral shipping process. “Shipping carbon-free to our customer’s door is one more step that bambeco is taking to allow consumers to live their sustainable values and help improve our environment. Together, we are changing the world, one room at a time,” says CEO Aplin.
“We welcome bambeco to our Carbonfree® Shipping program and applaud their decision to neutralize carbon emissions from product shipments to customers right from the start,” says Eric Carlson, President of Carbonfund.org. “This is an easy and affordable sustainability initiative that companies of any size can implement. It makes a difference to customers, and it makes a difference to the environment.”
One and a half million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions – it’s a large number with huge environmental impact – the equivalent of the carbon dioxide sequestered by 17,500 tree seedlings if planted and allowed to grow for ten years.
It’s also the quantity of carbon dioxide emissions that the Paper Mill Store has neutralized over the past six years through its CarbonFree® Shipping Program. Beginning in 2008, the Paper Mill Store partnered with Carbonfund.org to calculate all greenhouse gas emissions from their outbound product shipments each quarter, then neutralize those emissions by supporting renewable energy projects like 100% wind-generated electricity.
“We began using 100% wind power for our electricity needs through the purchase of renewable energy credits back in 2006,” says Brian J. Cowie, C.E.O. and founder of The Paper Mill Store. “We believe that wind power is a smart choice and a significant part of the solution towards cleaner air, water and a step in the direction of energy independence. The carbon offset initiative for outbound shipments is a natural extension of that commitment.”
The CarbonFree® Shipping program is one in a number of important steps that the Paper Mill Store is taking to run their company in a more sustainable and responsible manner. The company also is certified through both the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) Chain of Custody protocols. When purchasing their FSC and SFI certified paper and envelopes, customers can be certain that the fiber used to manufacture certified paper and envelopes came from well managed forests where people, wildlife and the environment benefit from the forestry practices.
This commitment echoes the Paper Mill Store’s nature-focused location. Their five-acre campus includes a pond clustered with over 100 tree varieties. Employees enjoy watching a mix of wildlife on the property including fox, coyote, hawks, deer, great blue heron, kingfishers, rabbits and more. The natural setting inspires the company’s continued dedication to providing eco-conscious products with CarbonFree® shipping to customers and underscores the company’s industry leadership in sustainability.
Summer vacation travel is winding down, and many will suffer the sore backs and shoulders that come with carting luggage and sports equipment through airports, hotels, and in and out of cars. This pain and hassle can be avoided, thanks to two guys who met in high school and spent their share of time schlepping bags while traveling. They formed Luggage Forward, providing guaranteed door-to-door luggage and sports equipment delivery to more than 200 countries worldwide, allowing clients the convenience of traveling without their luggage.
Five years ago, Luggage Forward took another progressive step to improve the sustainability of their service. Through Carbonfund.org’s CarbonFree® Shipping program, Luggage Forward allows clients to offset the carbon dioxide emissions generated from the airplanes, trucks and trains that are used in the shipment of each bag.
“We’re pleased to offer clients who send their luggage with Luggage Forward the opportunity to help in the fight against climate change by purchasing carbon offsets,” says Zeke Adkins, co-founder of Luggage Forward. “Considering the environmental impact of carbon emissions, we believe that taking these steps is a matter of basic corporate responsibility.”
Luggage Forward was born out of the simple idea that we should all be able to enjoy the journey as much as the destination, by eliminating long waits, the aggravation of lost luggage and the burden of carrying heavy bags. Forwarding luggage allows you to save time at the airport by avoiding the long check-in lines and skipping the wait at the baggage carousel. When you send your luggage with Luggage Forward, it is guaranteed to arrive on time or they’ll refund your money and give you up to $500 per bag to make it right. And with the CarbonFree® Shipping program, you can make it right by the environment by neutralizing the carbon emissions created by shipping your bag.
Outdoor sports and activity enthusiasts have regular opportunities to be immersed in our natural environment. Many visit the same locations year after year, often able to observe the negative effects of climate change, habitat destruction, and encroaching urban sprawl. Many companies that provide products and services to the outdoorsy types are aware of the impact of their operational emissions on the environment and have taken steps to address the issue.
A great example of leadership in carbon emissions neutralization is Seattle-based evo, bringing high quality ski, snowboard, wakeboard and skateboard gear and apparel to their customers. For the past six years, evo has offered its customers a simple, affordable way to neutralize the carbon emissions created by shipping their products to customers through the CarbonFree® Shipping program.
"Carbonfund.org was clearly the best partner for our business for several reasons,” explains Bryce Phillips, Founder and Owner of evo. “Firstly, they are the only non-profit organization among the larger companies offering carbon offsetting. Secondly, due in part to their non-profit status they can offer the same product (carbon offsetting) at the best price. Lastly, Carbonfund.org has been amazing to work with in implementing our website checkout. They were extremely helpful with messaging and promotion as well as logistics and aiding in the calculation of offset amounts."
evo seeks to involve its customers in the company’s environmental commitment and to raise awareness about how easy and effective carbon offsetting can be. evo customers help spread the word about the options people have to green up their lives by supporting Carbonfund.org’s clean air and carbon reduction projects, and help pave the way for other companies to offer carbon offsetting. That’s industry leadership – making a commitment, leading by example, and encouraging customers and supporters to join in the effort to transition to a cleaner energy future.
Forward-thinking and environmentally committed organizations recognize that the current emphasis on environmental responsibility is not a passing fad. Companies that rise above their competitors and lead with strong sustainability initiatives that make good business sense are the companies that will continue to prosper and grow. CarbonFree® Shipping Partner Envelopes.com is a great example, with a five-year long commitment to neutralizing all product shipping emissions through supporting Carbonfund.org’s global reforestation projects.
The CarbonFree® Shipping program is part of Envelopes.com’s “Going Green” program that includes facilities powered by 100% wind-powered electricity, a large selection of recycled paper envelopes, ones with corn-based clear address windows made from compostable materials by EarthFirst® Films, envelopes printed with soy inks, and envelopes and paper products made from 100% cotton fibers versus traditional paper.
“Partnering with Carbonfund.org is a great way to help reduce our carbon footprint. Our partnership has enabled us to send CarbonFree® Shipments by offsetting the CO2 created when shipping our products to your door by investing in reforestation projects,” explains Seth Newman, President of Envelopes.com. “Reforestation projects play a vital role in absorbing emissions and providing time to transition to a new energy future.”
Over the past five years, Envelopes.com has neutralized over 1.6 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from product shipments, equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide sequestered by almost 19,000 trees over a ten-year period.
Every business and consumer has choices when it comes to the paper products they use. Companies like Envelopes.com are helping to ensure that these choices include options that are environmentally responsible and exhibit ongoing commitments to sustainable operations. Envelopes.com’s long-term dedication to Going Green initiatives such as CarbonFree® Shipping keep them at the forefront of their industry and the green choice for their customers.
Luggage Shipping Company’s Carbon Offset Program Marks Fifth Anniversary
BOSTON, April 26, 2013 – Luggage Forward, the leading provider of doorstep to destination luggage delivery, marks the fifth anniversary of offering carbon-neutral door-to-door luggage shipments for travelers worldwide. Luggage Forward’s Carbon Offset Program began in 2008 in partnership with Carbonfund.org, the leading nonprofit provider of carbon offset and climate solutions.
Since the program’s inception, thousands of clients have chosen to offset the carbon emissions generated shipping luggage from their home directly to their destination. The amount of carbon offset during the life of this program is equivalent to the annual CO2 emissions from more than 41,000 gallons of gasoline consumed, or the equivalent of taking 76 passenger vehicles off the road for a year.
“Many of our clients appreciate having the option to offset the carbon impact of their travel, so that the spectacular places they visit can be preserved for generations to come,” said Zeke Adkins, Co-Founder of Luggage Forward, “we’re pleased to have given our clients this choice since 2008.”
Luggage Forward was the first, and remains the only, door-to-door luggage delivery service to offer such a program. However, many major shipping providers have since joined this effort and now offer carbon neutral shipping. To mark the fifth consecutive year of participation in the CarbonFree® Shipping Program, Carbonfund.org will be planting 50 trees in recognition of Luggage Forward at the end of the year.
