“Our mission includes converting large facilities over to LED lighting thereby making a significant reduction in energy usage Nationwide,” says Harry Zuker, CEO of uSave LED.  “Offsetting our own carbon footprint with Carbonfund.org credits shows our commitment to the environment.”

uSave LED supplies high quality and highest rated state-of-the-art energy saving LED lighting to commercial property owners and tenants nationwide.  In addition to offsetting its operational carbon footprint, uSave LED’s corporate office uses 100% LED lighting, its staff keeps business travel to a minimum and maintains a mostly paperless office.

uSave LED offers 100% financing programs, direct-purchase and self-installation, or their turnkey solutions including installation.  Results vary based on electrical costs and products chosen, but clients may anticipate a payback on investment in 1-3 years.  All products are certified by UL, CE, Energy Star Design Light Consortium or similar certification laboratories.

A commitment to providing environmentally-responsible lighting solutions while mitigating its own operational emissions puts uSave LED in the front of its industry for environmental leadership.  Carbonfund.org is happy to welcome uSave LED to the Carbonfree® Business Partnership.

In order to maximize product sustainability and environmental responsibility, reduce product carbon footprint and enhance transparency in product sustainability initiatives, Eco Alkalines™ Batteries once again undertook a rigorous audit and update of the cradle-to-grave Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for its products.  This audit and update of the product LCA included enhanced product functionality analysis and energy usage, new initiatives to reduce transportation-related emissions and product packaging emissions, greater detail of raw materials content assessment, and establishment of an ongoing product carbon footprint reduction plan with annual goals and achievement measurements.

The updated LCA meets current PAS 2050 and ISO requirements to renew registration of Eco Alkalines™ batteries as Certified Carbonfree® Products with Carbonfund.org Foundation, and ongoing product sales will be reported to Carbonfund.org so that corresponding carbon credits to neutralize the carbon footprint for all products will be purchased and retired on behalf of LEI Products by Carbonfund.org. Eco Alkalines™ batteries have been Certified Carbonfree® by Carbonfund.org Foundation and NSF Sustainability for the past four years.

“Eco Alkalines Batteries continue to lead the market in environmental conservation and sustainability initiatives,” states Eric M. Carlson, president of Carbonfund.org Foundation.  “The comprehensive re-evaluation they’ve completed of their products’ carbon footprint to the latest in sustainability standards underscores their ongoing commitment to offering businesses and consumers the most environmentally responsible batteries available on the market today.”

Eco Alkalines™ batteries are committed to environmental sustainability and green innovation, are environment and landfill conscious. The packaging is manufactured with 80% of recycled materials and the batteries are derived from earth elements  which have no trace amounts of harmful metals such as Mercury, Cadmium and Lead.

In addition to their innovative and unique green credentials and applications, Eco Alkalines™ perform equal to or better than the leading national brands in performance and longevity tests.  Eco Alkalines™ have a guaranteed 5-year shelf life and a unique patented leak resistant seal ensuring that they will not leak into your devices.

Despite their pioneering eco accolades and novel technology, Eco Alkalines™ batteries are competitively priced compared to the leading national brands. As eco-friendly technology evolves to a ‘must’ rather than a choice, Eco Alkalines™ does not believe that consumers and companies should have to pay a premium for a green product.

Eco Alkalines™ batteries are geared to environmentally-conscious consumers, as the brand continues to create an environmental awareness with a message of its commitment to reduced world-wide carbon emissions and its suggestion to use recycled material and recycle products when and where possible.  You may support Eco Alkalines™ Batteries and learn more about them at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ecoalkalines-batteries-reduces-carbon-footprint.

VonChurch Committed to Being Green through Being Carbonfree®

Written by

For the past five years, San Francisco-based VonChurch, the leading recruiting firm specialized in helping digitally focused companies evolve, has achieved one of its many commitments – to “being green” – in part through its Carbonfree® Business Partnership program with Carbonfund.org.  Each year, VonChurch makes a donation to Carbonfund.org to neutralize their estimated annual operational emissions.

"It is crucial we continue to take part in taking care of our environment,” explains Nicole Ossey, HR Director of VonChurch.  “The partnership with Carbonfund.org helps us do that because of information and programs they provide, which are able to support the goal of our company to be a Green Certified Business."

To date, VonChurch has neutralized over 800,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to the emissions created by driving a standard passenger car almost 875,000 miles.

Founded in San Francisco in August 2008, VonChurch is committed to preserving the environment. Not only is the firm offsetting emissions for its office energy usage and its eleven employees, but they also offset emissions from flights that they initiate when recruitment candidates fly to meet VonChurch clients.

Additionally, VonChurch participates in the San Francisco Green Business program, a non-profit organization that establishes rigid requirements to ensure green business practices.  These commitments to “being green” keep VonChurch at the forefront in the recruiting industry as an environmental leader.

Corporate Risk Systems Limited (CRS), a UK-based Risk Management Consultancy, provides consultancy and training solutions across Health, Safety and Environmental sectors and supports many international clients in insurance markets, the public sector, and commercial organizations.

As a responsible organization offering environmental and health and safety support to its clients, CRS recognizes the need for all organizations to reduce their environmental impact through implementation of effective carbon emissions and waste reduction policies.  To address its own operational emissions, CRS developed a Carbon Reduction and Offset Policy, using Carbonfund.org to offset its entire annual corporate emissions and make Corporate Risk Systems Carbonfree®

"It’s down to each individual and organization to accept its environmental impact, if sustainable development is to turn from a concept into reality,” says Richard Ball, Head of Environment for CRS.  “Climate Change is one of the most serious threats facing the world today, and it is all our responsibility to reduce carbon emissions at source where possible, and offset our residual carbon footprint."

Over the past eight years, CRS has neutralized almost 1.6 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to the emissions produced by combusting almost 80,000 gallons of gasoline.

Corporate Risk Systems Limited is a forward-thinking and innovative HSE training and consultancy group, ISO 9001 certified and Carbonfree®.  Their auditing, training and consulting services have benefitted clients in over 60 countries on six continents, and their commitment to neutralizing their own operational emissions establishes CRS as a clear leader in corporate risk consultancy and sustainability leadership.

Tandus Centiva, A Tarkett Company, offers a unique line of flooring products as a true fit-for-purpose approach to enhance building spaces for learning, working, healing and living.  An important component of its product line is offering Certified Carbonfree® flooring products to its customers, through a program developed by Carbonfund.org.

The company utilizes Cradle to Cradle principals to strategically design and manufacture its products. This closed-loop approach focuses on four key areas: the choice of good materials in the design of products, the responsible use of resources to minimize impacts on the environment, the well-being of people during product use and closed loop recycling at the end-of-use to produce new products with good materials.

The Certified Carbonfree® Product program relies upon a full cradle-to-grave Life Cycle Assessment of each registered product, to determine the entire carbon footprint associated with each square yard of flooring material.  Tandus Centiva has renewed its Certified Carbonfree® Product Registration again this year for seven of its flooring products.

“Tandus Centiva will continue to conserve energy and utilize renewable energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with its operations and products,” explains Glen Hussmann, President of Tandus Centiva.  “Additionally, registering Powerbond® and modular products as Carbonfree® through the Carbonfund.org provides Tandus Centiva customers with a credible means of purchasing Carbonfree® floor coverings.”

Tandus Centiva uses a multifaceted approach to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations and products including the reduction of energy, water and solid waste, the increased use of recycled material and renewable energy, along with a continued emphasis on closed loop recycling and post-consumer reclamation of its products.  These strategies along with the Certified Carbonfree® Product options places Tandus Centiva among the sustainability leaders in the flooring industry.

PureLife Dental is “watching its Ps” when it comes to its triumvirate of operating commitments.  PureLife empowers dental practitioners to make a positive difference in the health of their patients, staff, and environmental impact, so that achieving better health can be a realistic part of every purchase decision they make.

The firm’s “Patients, Planet, Profits” Pledge ensures that PureLife Dental’s customers benefit from the company’s goal to provide the highest quality and most environmentally healthy products at the best available prices.  From complete waste solutions to everyday dental supplies, PureLife Dental believes that healthy patients, a healthy planet, and healthy profits can all be achieved, with no tradeoffs required.

Through Carbonfund.org, PureLife Dental offsets 100% of the company’s annual operational emissions, as well as all of the shipping emissions for every product they sell, from the manufacturing line to the customer’s door.  Since 2008, PureLife Dental has neutralized over 16.5 million pounds of carbon emissions by supporting Carbonfund.org’s reforestation projects around the world.  Those carbon emissions reductions are comparable to the quantity of carbon dioxide sequestered by over 192,000 tree seedlings planted and grown over a ten-year period. As a result, PureLife Dental customers are reducing their own environmental impact with every order placed through PureLife.

“When we launched PureLife, the first thing we did was to see how we could reduce the impact of shipping products all over the country,” said Cassie Walker, VP of Marketing and Sustainability. “This was important, because dentists could buy their supplies from anyone, but if they buy them from us there’s a reduced eco impact, automatically.”

“We chose Carbonfund.org for our offset program because they had credibility – their projects are third-party validated and additional – as well as the expertise to help us calculate our emissions until we developed that capability in-house,” said Walker. “They’ve continued to help us refine our program and figure out approachable ways to talk about it with our customers.”

In addition to their carbon neutral operations, PureLife’s Feel Good Collection include products that have an environmental advantage over their traditional counterparts. Whether they contain recycled content or non-toxic chemistries, or they come in reduced or recycled content packaging, these products allow dental practitioners to make a difference without sacrificing anything.

PureLife Dental’s commitment to “Patients, Planet, Profits” underscores its sustainability leadership in the dental supply industry, and Carbonfund.org is honored to partner with PureLife to help achieve these goals.

Weber Shandwick, a leading global public relations firm with offices in 81 countries, weaves Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into everything the firm does for its clients and employees.  Weber Shandwick is mindful of its environmental impact and promotes sustainability by minimizing its own environmental footprint and partnering with clients who share a passion for contributing to their communities.  Weber Shandwick’s business plans and global employee culture share a “green mindset” and a commitment to being “engaging, always.”

In 2009, Weber Shandwick implemented a non-billable travel emissions offsetting program with Carbonfund.org, designed to neutralize employees’ global business travel by supporting carbon reduction and clean air technology projects around the world.  To date, Weber Shandwick has neutralized over 16 million pounds of greenhouse gas emissions related to staff business travel, the same quantity of emissions as created by burning almost 825,000 gallons of gasoline.  The firm also focuses on minimizing consumption of resources like water and energy, maximizing the efficiency of resource use, and minimizing and responsibly dealing with waste.

Weber Shandwick’s “Green Teams” lead the firm’s efforts to maintain ISO 14001 certification requirements, set future goals for the firm’s sustainability achievements, and tailor environmental programs to suit their respective offices.

In 2013, the firm launched the Impact Project to enhance the pro bono and volunteer efforts of its workforce across various global regions.  Weber Shandwick recently held its 8th annual Making A Difference Awards program to spotlight individuals and specific offices that make a positive impact through what they do for others around the world.  Carbonfund.org is proud to partner with Weber Shandwick in making a difference by improving the firm’s sustainable business travel.
