Forest Carbon Offsetting Survey Released
The Forest Carbon Offsetting Survey 2009 was released today at a time when forest-based carbon offset projects are playing an important role in combating global warming. The Climate, Community & Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA), Conservation International, and others collaborated to produce this survey. The writers seek to understand current corporate attitudes toward forest-based carbon offsets to determine factors that drive purchasing decisions, and explore expectations beyond carbon offsets.
The survey indicates that a motivating factor for companies to choose forest-related projects comes from the positive spill-over effect they have on the native ecology, and the tangibility of the offsets with carbon stored in the biomass of trees. Carbonfund.org supports a number of forest-based projects including our Tensas National Wildlife Refuge Reforestation Project, which has achieved dual validation to both Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) Standards and the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS).
