Guide Rejects Internationally Accepted Third-Party Standards in Favor of Subjective, Non-CO₂ Related Criteria
Silver Spring, Md., July 24, 2009 – In a guide purporting to rate and rank carbon offset providers in Canada and abroad, the David Suzuki Foundation (DSF) and Pembina Institute have rejected internationally accepted carbon reduction standards in favor of subjective criteria that have no bearing on whether or not carbon dioxide is reduced from the atmosphere. The guide rejects forest-based carbon reductions even when certified to the strict standards adopted by the United Nations, International Organization for Standardization (ISO), California’s Climate Action Reserve (CAR) and Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) also allows forest-based carbon reductions, as does the Kyoto Protocol.

Pine Mountain, Ga., Callaway Gardens, Sept. 8, 2009 – The American Kneeboard Association 2009 National Championships’ organizers announced today that it is offsetting its carbon emissions with Carbonfund.org. For the second consecutive year the American Kneeboard National Championships have offset competitors, officials, and family travel to and from the Championships, their hotel stays, meals, local travel, and all towboat emissions used while pulling events. The organizers have scheduled all events within a half-mile radius to reduce travel and will take several measures to reduce non-renewable resources during the Championships. The commitment further establishes the American Kneeboard Association as an environmental leader in the USA Water Ski and Global Sport Alliance Communities, and demonstrates the proactive steps the AKA is taking in the fight against global climate change.
College of the Atlantic to Help Reduce Truck Stop Emissions
Nation’s Carbon Neutral College Files Plans with ACUPCC, Offsets through Carbonfund.org
Bar Harbor, ME, September 29, 2009 - College of the Atlantic, which has been carbon neutral since December 2007, today announced its most recent purchase of carbon offsets which will ensure that the College will maintain its “net zero” greenhouse gas emissions status through December 2009. The college, the first known to become neutral for carbon emissions, continues to reduce and eliminate those emissions it can. What it cannot reduce or eliminate are now offset by supporting truck stop electrification through Carbonfund.org. The project provides electricity to drivers at truck stops to eliminate the need for the idling of truck engines.
