Come to Brooklyn for the Green Getaways Local Food and Travel ExpoWritten by Linda Kelly
Just after Earth Day, on Saturday, April 30, EscapeMaker.com will be holding the first-of-its kind Green Getaways, Local Food & Travel Expo in Brooklyn, NY. The eco-friendly event’s mission is to encourage greener travel to local destinations within a few hours of New York City – whether by Amtrak, Long Island Railroad, Metro-North or car-sharing with Zipcar. To encourage “Agri-tourism” and buying local, the Expo will feature over 25 regional farms, food exhibitors and wineries offering samples of farm-fresh foods, wines, local delicacies and regional products including Vermont cheese, maple syrup, honey, goats milk caramel, artisan chocolates, jams and preserves, and Hudson Valley Wine. Plus, the Expo includes a full schedule of live music, sustainability workshops, kids’ activities and over 50 great getaway door prizes! Cayin Sanders, Founder and President of EscapeMaker.com, posted the following “Top 11 Ways We Greened Our Event” for the Expo, which includes partnering with Carbonfund.org and Green Mountain Energy to purchase carbon offsets for the building energy, paper goods, and estimated attendee travel emissions. Click here for more information on the Expo, or buy tickets online. See you Saturday!
