Breathe Cleanly with GoodLight Natural CandlesWritten by Linda Kelly
Do you love the calming glow of candlelight on a soft summer evening? Do you know what you’re burning, and as a result, what you, your family, your customers, and your clients are breathing? Make the clean, safe and affordable choice with palm wax candles from GoodLight Natural Candles. GoodLight Natural Candles offers the lowest-priced paraffin-free candles on the market. GoodLight’s full line of unscented tea lights, votives, tapers, and pillars are made only with 100% palm wax and pure cotton wicks, contain no additives whatsoever, and burn clean, emitting no soot or toxins. Born at the Bluecorn retail booth in New York City’s Union Square Holiday Market, GoodLight founders Jon and David set out to develop an affordable candle that was all natural and non-toxic to replace all the nasty little paraffin votives burning on the tables of New York's restaurants -- and everywhere else for that matter. It took a lot of trial and error to find a product they believed in, but they finally did it. The result is GoodLight Natural Candles’ unscented utility candles that are priced to compete with the petroleum-based paraffin candles that are polluting your air and your lungs with their poisonous fumes. While Jon and David love beeswax and soy wax candles, they felt those waxes produced candles a bit too expensive for those who buy bulk candles and have to stick to a budget. Palm wax is a completely non-toxic product of palm fruit, a rapidly renewable resource that also happens to be the most efficient and highest yielding oil-producing plant on earth. In their quest to figure out a cost-competitive replacement for those soot-spewing petroleum candles, they read what environmentalists had to say about palm and deforestation, and then learned about the sustainability movement being pioneered by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil and its associates to help put an end to the deforestation and create sustainable palm oil cultivation. Palm trees require exponentially less irrigation, fertilizer, and pesticides than crops like soy and rapeseed (canola), while yielding up to 10 times more oil per acre than any other oil-producing plant. The sustainable palm oil trees, which are non-GMO, also provide forest cover during their 25-year life span, producing oxygen while sequestering carbon dioxide. These long life spans also mean that palm crops aren’t getting mowed down every year and the soil’s not getting tilled; therefore, palm cultivation causes much less erosion or pollution. As the demand for palm products increases, an important part of the GoodLight mission is to help advance the movement in Malaysia and elsewhere to stop related deforestation by working with the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and GreenPalm, organizations that are pioneering sustainability in palm farming. GoodLight pays a premium to RSPO-certified growers who have implemented the most efficient and sustainable farming practices, and who believe in social responsibility and protecting native forests. In addition, all of their packaging is recycled/recyclable and printed with soy-based inks. And GoodLight Natural Candles chose to partner with Carbonfund.org as part of their 1% For the Planet commitment, in order to offset their business and shipping emissions (and then some), and to support the reforestation projects that Carbonfund.org supports. GoodLight Natural Candles are available at many retailers and online. So enjoy that soft candlelight glow – at home, at work, as gifts – with GoodLight Natural Candles.
